Part I: Welcome to the Kingdom

Chapter 1: Everybody Is Nuts!

The Kingdom of Nuts begins with that one simple truth.

You know the moment. You are in the grocery store, watching somebody hold up the line with expired coupons, and you remember the time you argued with a self-checkout machine like it had insulted your family.

That's the whole game. Not spotting the circus in other people. Catching yourself in it. Once you see it, you can't unsee it.

You notice the whole parade: the man bargaining with his GPS, the woman saying "sorry" to a chair she bumped into, the teenager in giant headphones avoiding eye contact, the smiling person saying "I'm fine" with murder in the eyebrows.

You don't enter this Kingdom.

You realize you've lived here the whole time.

The Mirror of Truth reflects you in one rude, perfect second—the instant you hear yourself say something ridiculous and think, "Oh no. I do that."

That's when it happens.

Your crown appears.

Not lowered from the sky. Not approved by committee. Not delivered with fanfare.

It just lands there, crooked, familiar, embarrassingly right.

It fits immediately. That's how a person becomes a Nutizen.

There's no application. No interview. No screening process.

A background check would only prove the point.

The Kingdom doesn't ask for perfection. It doesn't reward camouflage. It doesn't require you to smile politely while your inner raccoon chews through the wiring.

Here, your quirks are part of your royalty.

They're the jewels in the crown.

Wear it crooked.

It fits better that way.

The First Rule of the Kingdom:

The circus is always closer than you think.

I saw it at a rental car counter. The agent leaned over and said, "You won't believe the guy I just had to deal with." He wanted an upgrade, a discount, immediate service, and the treatment reserved for minor royalty.

He kept asking the same question.

"Do you know who my FATHER is?"

Loud. Offended. Absolutely certain this line had worked for him before.

The agent finally looked at him and said:

"No idea. Maybe you should ask your mother?"

Angry man at rental car counter demanding to know who his father is
